Hello, I realize that a similar topic about synching two machines (a desktop and a laptop) has already been covered, but I don't have much experience with Exchange, so I'd like to make sure I don't confuse things. I just installed Newsgator 1.3 on my two machines and I'm trying to figure out the best way to be able to read my feeds on both machines without having to sort through duplicate posts. I figured out that the best way to keep all my feeds in the same location is to set up an IMAP account, which I have already done. However, I know that I still need to figure out a way to tell one of my machines that the other one has already downloaded new posts in order to keep it from downloading everything I've already read. I usually keep my files in synch by using the Briefcase on Windows. I synch my Outlook .PST file that way to keep my calendar and contacts (I don't have any mail stored on my .PST files) on the same on both of my machines. On my notebook, I've set Outlook to store its data files inside a folder in my Briefcase. I was thinking that I could do the same with whatever file NewsGator uses to keep track of what it's downloaded. However, I don't see an option on NewsGator to specify a data file. Is there a key in the registry that would allow me to point to a different directory besides the default one? What would be the best way to keep these two machines synched? Thanks in advance.

The file you would need to sync is your NewsGatorSubs.opml file (discussed here). You can't change its location, but if you can get it to sync to the correct location on each machine, you should be good to go. Also, if you're already syncing your PST file, you might consider storing your news in the PST file. If you sync both the PST file and the NewsGatorSubs.opml file, you'd be all set...without the performance impact of storing news through IMAP. Hope this helps...

Sorry if this has been mentioned but what are the chances of getting it so that the location of this file can be changed, thus being able to store it say in My Documents and making a Synch more easily done. My example is that I have a server and desktop at home and use a laptop, the server holds my data, the desktop simply reads the data from the server by having its my documents point at a network share and the laptop is synch'd to the server thus allowing offline access. I hope this makes sense

We store in the "recommended" location for application data files, as suggested by the Windows development guidelines. If we moved this, it wouldn't work for people with roaming profiles, etc. That said, stay tuned.

Thanks for the swift reply. That of course makes perfect sense, I'll definatly be staying tuned though, this app is a must have for myself already as I live in Outlook, however if there becomes a way to deal with this issue more efficiently then it will certainly move in to my 'simply can't live with out' section

I was surprised that there wasn't even a registry setting for us who like to tweak stuff, but that "stay tuned" comment just raised my hopes. After all, Outlook lets you specify the location of your PST file. All in all, Newsgator rocks my world.

Just to make sure I'm managing expectations well... For those who would like to tweak the location of the subscription files: is there any reason you want to do this other than being able to synchronize subscriptions between multiple machines?

| Aside from synchronizing and backing up the subscription list to a specific drive or folder, I can't think of anything else.

Yup that about sums it up for me, basic synchronization between multiple machines, the backup is not quiet so critical as I already have that happening with the file in it's present location. So either a way of specifying the location of the file or any other method you may have in mind for ensuring the posts to the feeds we subscribe to are not duplicated when you move to a new machine. Thanks once again for you kind and prompt assistance.
