I've been extensively using the capability of Newsgator to monitor NNTP groups. This has come in especially handy as I sync some of these groups to my Pocket PC and wade through them at leisure. I have noted that Symantec AntiVirus is occassionaly picking up downloaded virus files in an "NG" subdirectory of my temp directory. It seems that NG is decoding attachements and at least temporarily dropping them there. This seems like a dangerous practice to me. I'm guessing that the danger is mitigated by the fact that I would never save any attachments that came along with a newsgroup posting, but I'd rather they were never decoded in the first place.

Hi Robert, You're right...NewsGator decodes attachments, and temporarily puts them in the temp directory before attaching them to the item in Outlook. You raise an interesting point about the virus thing...not only saving them as files is dangerous, but attaching them in Outlook is probably even worse. At very least I will see about changing the defaults in the next version...and I'll give some thought as to what we could do about this problem. Thanks!
